Vision Therapy FAQs

Not every eye problem requires surgery or glasses and contact lenses for correction. Specific eye problems like crossed eyes and lazy eyes, result from poor eye and brain coordination and can be corrected with vision therapy.

At 4Sight iCare in Plainfield, IL, we offer a variety of optometry services, including vision therapy, to help our patients preserve their vision. Before you schedule an appointment with us, take a look at some frequently asked questions regarding vision therapy below:

What Is Vision Therapy?

Vision therapy is also known as vision training and refers to non-invasive eye treatments that help improve a person’s visual acuity, focusing abilities, tracking capabilities, and decrease blurry vision.

Typically, vision therapy involves weekly home eye exercises and in-office exercises to train the visual system to relieve or eliminate symptoms that you may be experiencing. The duration of the therapy depends on the diagnosis and severity of your condition.

How Do I Know If I am Eligible for Vision Therapy?

To determine if you are eligible for vision therapy, our optometrist will begin with a diagnosis. We may recommend vision therapy for some of the following:

  • We suspect a muscle problem with your eyes
  • We detect an eye focusing problem during exams that corrective glasses can’t improve
  • You developed visual problems due to a concussion or mild traumatic brain injury, and other eye treatment options were not successful
  • You received a dilated eye exam for corrective lenses and are experiencing headaches, eye strain, double vision, or blurry vision when reading

What are Some Benefits of Vision Therapy?

Vision therapy can help correct a variety of eye problems. For instance, vision therapy can help with vision problems that are related to learning by improving eye-hand coordination, visual processing skills, and eye movements. Vision training can also help patients with eye teaming and eye-focusing problems develop regular eye coordination, while improving their accuracy and focusing efficiency. This treatment offers a painless and preferable alternative to surgery for patients suffering from Strabismus and lazy eye conditions. It is beneficial in relieving eye strain and headaches that may be affecting your daily life, and can be a more suitable option for those who don’t want to wear contact lenses.
